Michael Machado
Michael is from Toronto and graduated with honors from the Canadian Food and Wine Institute. Chef Michael has over 10 years experience working in various 5 star restaurants, hotels and wineries, including Peller Estates Winery and Queen’s Landing in Niagara-on-the-Lake, from managing large scale catering events and creating mouthwatering tasting menus and dishes to leave your palette begging for more! Chef Michael has worked onboard various private and charter yachts ranging from 130-260 feet. He is no stranger to the yachting scene and has freelanced for numerous charter vessels cruising the Caribbean, Central America and the Bahamas. His favorite culinary styles include; Japanese, French, Italian, Vegetarian, Mexican and more. Michael aims to provide a memorable experience for guests onboard, and is receptive to any dietary restrictions. Chefs Micheal ’s passion towards food is reflected in the experiences and dishes he curates for guests. Raiari (Rai) Chin Ah You
Rai is French and obtained a Degree in Mathematics and Informatics at the University of French Polynesia. He joined the industry as a deckhand and has cruised the Mediterranean, Caribbean, South Pacific and United states on large yachts including M/Y Legacy and Helios 3. With a great amount of experience in the yachting industry, ‘Rai’ is a young, qualified engineer with ample skills for engineering and deck work. He is hands-on with positive energy and the can-do attitude that is needed on a busy charter yacht! Rai is very organized and meticulous in his engine room, has great knowledge and interest in AV and IT systems which helps with providing the technical guidance needed for the yacht. Rai is a certified rescue diver and enjoys driving the tender, going fishing with the guests and participating in all kinds of watersports! You will always see him with a smile and ready to help – ensuring that all guests have lasting memories from their charter on board!
James Speed
Coming from a farming background – James is used to hard work with little sleep. James is a young South African who knows the value of teamwork yet having the self-discipline to get things done on his own in an efficient and timely manner. After completing high school, James hopped on a sail boat and crossed the Atlantic Ocean on a delivery from Durban, South Africa to Fort Lauderdale. James enjoys the engine room which brings fond memories of fixing motorbikes and cars back home. He is constantly learning new skills and readjusts himself easily to work hard and show the guests a memorable time onboard the yacht. James uses his youth and enthusiasm to grow both personally and professionally by being flexible and optimistic at all times. Hobbies include canoeing, trail running, mountain biking, surfing, all kinds of water sports and anything adventurous.
Sierra Storm
Sierra’s goal is to provide guests with an outstanding level of service together with a welcoming smile. Sierra is a certified Yoga teacher, advanced mixologist, licensed Aesthetician and ex owner of her own cold pressed juice company. After school and various courses for her chosen career path she started out as a team leader for a cleaning company, but soon her creative side plunged her into opening her own juice company. After two successful years as a business owner, she started in yachting industry which silenced her love for traveling and serving people. In 2015 she joined a yacht as junior stewardess and learnt a lot about the charter industry with hard work, people skills, determination and a positive attitude. Sierra has worked on private jets and busy charter yachts, including M/Y Sweet Escape. Sierra is passionate about what she does, attentive and thinks of the finer details to ensure that guests are comfortable, and every need is taken care of as she uses her diverse experience from both the yachting and private aviation industries to provide memorable experiences. Sierra is optimistic and energetic. She enjoys hiking, yoga and various water sports in her free time.
Josine (Jo) Tiggelman
Jo is from the Netherlands and enjoys speaking about her beautiful country! She obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration in Leisure Management with a Minor in Event Management from Breda University of Applied Science. Jo loves to travel, and found an opportunity to work on board, Vagobondo II, a 220ft private yacht where she was one of 19 crew members. Detailing, housekeeping and all aspects of being meticulous and organized is what helped Jo realize she had found her new career. After a season in the Med, Jo joined another large private yacht and travelled to Gibraltar and Palma. She now was delighted with the options that the yachting industry offered. In December 2016, Helios 3 became her new home and gave her the ability to establish herself, using her multi- tasking skills, eagerness and positive outlook to endure a year and a half that was filled with nonstop traveling. She is motivated, a team player and works well under pressure, a strong asset to any yacht! Jo loves reading, diving, baking and dancing.
Colin Branson
After school, Colin was eager to travel and learn more about what life aboard entailed. As a young, hardworking South African, having a UK residency, he aspired to find a job and started working at Cockwells Modern and Classic boatbuilders in Cornwall England. Quickly he learnt all about sanding, varnishing and what it takes to maintain boats. A temporary deckhand position moved him from shore to sea. Once on board the yacht, he was keen to apply his skills and assisted with a big refit and gain more experience in the engine room. Thereafter, Colin’s positive attitude and willingness to learn, got him a permanent position onboard M/Y Hermitage. He has gained travel and sea experience on two other privately owned yachts that took him to some of the most beautiful and remote places in the world, including French Polynesia and Fiji. Colin is a great team player and he is always willing to help where needed. He enjoys driving the tender, talking to guests and owners and will find the remote little beaches, secret fishing spots and get you all organized for your watersport adventures, beach BBQ or land excursion. Colin has a great sense of humor and will keep you smiling during your stay.
